Marine biologist, entrepreneur
Of the 94 million plant and animal samples taken by scientists each year to advance their research, the majority are discarded. First-hand experience of this wastage sparked Madeline and a fellow marine researcher to found Otlet - a tech platform that enables scientists to share or exchange biological samples. Named after pioneering information scientist Paul Otlet, it connects researchers across the globe, encouraging the exchange of ideas and facilitating the transport of vital biological samples. Madeline hopes that by spreading the word about this unique platform, she can help protect our natural environment while supporting our greatest research minds to make potentially world-changing discoveries.
