Our focus:

Communities across Australia

Economically empowered communities have unique characteristics such as resilience, adaptability and the ability to drive positive change from within.

1. We see a community as a group of people with something in common - shared interests, experiences, or connections.

2. Community boundaries aren’t always visible or fixed. Lines on a map or region names may not align with everyone’s sense of belonging or place.

3. Dispersed leadership opportunities emerge within communities where people step-up to lead innovative sustainable and relevant solutions to their challenges.

4. This in turn helps communities become less vulnerable to external shocks.

Our how:

Social entrepreneurship

Social entrepreneurship prioritises social impact over pure profit maximisation, identifies unmet needs, creates new or improved products or services, and strives for financial sustainability and scalability to achieve lasting social community-based change.

We develop capacity through funding multiple learning opportunities.

1. How to use the tools and mindset of social entrepreneurship.

2. Approaches that use business principles and innovative strategies to develop, fund and implement solutions for social, cultural or environmental issues.

Our priorities

Building the foundations

We will support social entrepreneurs and initiatives that create economic empowerment in communities by building and valuing:

1. Certainty: Capacity development to create agency

2. Confidence: Knowledge to gain equitable access to opportunity

3. Connection: Social resources for belonging

Breaking the cycle

1. We understand that no single tool or initiative can unlock the diverse aspirations, readiness and entire efforts of a community.

2. Effective empowerment strategies recognise the complexity of economic life, unpredictability of global shocks, and the power of trade.

3. We harness a suite of complementary tools including financial, educational, technological and social tools.

4. We recognise these tools may operate at different scales, from the individual entrepreneur through to the wider network of community stakeholders. When combined, they can create a reinforcing ecosystem that supports both immediate needs and long-term ambitions.

Our approach

We are motivated by our values and want to be actively involved in creating a sector wide culture of generosity and learning.

1. We listen with intent, valuing curiosity and openness, knowing that this is an ongoing journey, not a destination.

2. We enlist advisory panels through intentional gatherings and collaborations. We will draw upon the knowledge of others and share our knowledge, to deepen understanding of the drivers and barriers of economic empowerment.

3. We activate others through our giving and capacity development to help fuel the collective wisdom and energy of communities.

4. We lead with a persistent commitment to bring out the best in ourselves and those around us.
